For decades, parents have tried to get their children to eat their sandwich crusts for years. Eventually, someone comes along and makes Uncrustables–premade sandwiches without crust. The question now is, are they healthy? Read more Uncrustables Nutrition Facts here!
Sandwiches made without crust are not the best. These sandwiches contain processed flour, vegetable oils, and at most 5 grams of added sugar. You can make your sandwich using 100% whole wheat bread, natural peanut oil, and a spread made from 100% real fruit.
Below I will be discussing 3 Uncrustables flavors, including the Nutella-like flavor and an “On Wheat Bread.” I will explore whether Uncrustables can be considered “processed food” and if they are good for weight loss.

Uncrustables Ingredients.
These are my observations about the ingredients.
- Uncrustables contain added sugar. Even in “Reduced Sugar” flavors, there is still sugar in the bread, peanut spread, and fruit spread. You could also make your own whole-wheat sandwich using natural peanut butter, jam, and other ingredients.
- Uncrustables are made from white flour. In most flavors, “enriched unbleached wheat flour.” This flour is processed more and lacks fiber than whole grain flour. This flour is still used as the second ingredient in On Wheat Bread.
- Some uncrustables contain some processed vegetable oil. Soybean oil is used in the bread, while fillings are made with various vegetable oils. Vegetable oils are highly processed and high in calories.
- Uncrustables contain real nuts, peanuts, or fruit. Real peanut butter and real strawberries are included in the strawberry spread. You’ll also get sugar and other ingredients. However, the nuts and fruits are still good for you.
- Uncrustables are made with whole wheat flour. Whole wheat bread is healthier because it contains more fiber, which can slow down the digestion of carbs.
Uncrustables are in the same category as processed foods. They contain refined flour, oil, sugar, and other ingredients. There are healthy ingredients, but overall the picture is not appealing to me.
